SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 79

A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Earl Philson.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Earl Philson on May
4, 2021, at the age of ninety-five; and
WHEREAS, Earl Philson was born on January 2, 1926; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his daughter, Vernita P. Riley; brother, James Philson;
and grandchildren, Elysia Douglas (Timothy), James Riley (Janecka), and Vernita Winding
(Terrance); and
WHEREAS, he was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and brother; and
WHEREAS, the death of Earl Philson has left a substantial void in his community
and a sense of loss in those lives he touched, and his memory shall live forever in the minds
and hearts of all those who knew him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Earl Philson upon the
occasion of his death.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Vernita P. Riley.
