SCHOOLS:  Creates a French immersion school in the community of Pointe-au-Chien in
Terrebonne Parish
Synopsis of Senate Amendments
1.Increase board membership from seven to 13.
2.Require the Terrebonne Parish School board to make certain vacant facilities
available to the school and to donate certain property to the school.
Digest of Bill as Finally Passed by Senate
Proposed law creates École Pointe-au-Chien, an independent public French immersion
school in Terrebonne Parish.  Provides that the school shall be its own local education
agency.  Provides for governance by a 13-member board of directors, which shall be the
school's sole governing authority.  Provides for state funding and the education of students
in grades prekindergarten through four.
Proposed law requires the Terrebonne Parish School Board to make available, at no cost, any
school facility, including real and immovable property, whether improved or unimproved,
that is owned by the school board and that is vacant or slated to be vacant in the town of
Pointe-aux-Chenes for use by the school.  Further requires the school board to donate all
other property that was within the former Pointe-aux-Chenes Elementary School prior to its
closure to the school within 90 days of proposed law becoming law.
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
