HOUSE BILL NO. 284

LEGISLATION:  Deletes references to the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans
in various provisions of law
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1339(B)(1) and R.S. 40:2844(B)(3) and (20), relative to
3 boards and commissions; to provide for membership of the governing board of the
4 Louisiana Emergency Response Network; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 37:1339(B)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
7 §1339.  Advisory Committee on Perfusion; creation
8	*          *          *
9	B.(1)  The committee shall be composed of a total of seven persons,
10 including four persons who hold an active license to engage in the practice of
11 perfusion in this state, and are appointed by the governor from a list of names
12 submitted by the Louisiana Perfusion Society, or from the general perfusion
13 community should the Louisiana Perfusion Society disband, and two physicians who
14 are actively engaged in the practice of cardiothoracic surgery, appointed by the
15 governor from a list of names submitted by the Louisiana Society of Thoracic
16 Surgeons and one representative from a hospital with an active open heart program
17 appointed by the governor from a list of names submitted by the Louisiana Hospital
18 Association and the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans.  The initial
19 perfusionist appointees who would otherwise be required to be licensed perfusionists

1 shall instead be individuals who have been practicing perfusion for at least five years
2 and who are eligible under this Part for licensure as a perfusionist.

4 Section 2.  R.S. 40:2844(B)(3) and (20) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
5as follows: 
6 §2844.  Governing board; membership, appointment, terms, compensation,
7	vacancies

9	B.  The network shall be governed by a board of twenty-nine members which
10 shall include:

12	(3)  One member from nominees submitted by the Metropolitan Hospital
13 Council of New Orleans Louisiana Hospital Association to represent hospitals with
14 one hundred beds or more.

16	(20)  One member of the Louisiana Hospital Association rehabilitation
17 constituency group to represent hospitals providing rehabilitation services.

Abstract:  Removes the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans from the Advisory
Committee on Perfusion and provides one member of the Louisiana Hospital
Association to represent hospitals providing rehabilitation services. 
Present law requires the Advisory Committee on Perfusion to be composed of certain
members, including a member from nominees submitted by the Metropolitan Hospital
Council of New Orleans.
Proposed law removes the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans and requires the
Louisiana Hospital Association to submit a member nominee. 
Present law requires one member of the Louisiana Hospital Association rehabilitation
constituency group to be one of the members of the Advisory Committee on Perfusion.
