HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 65

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To urge and request the Louisiana Alzheimer's Coalition to submit its Alzheimer's state plan
to the office of the governor, speaker of the House of Representatives, president of
the Senate, chairman of the House Committee on Health and Welfare, and chairman
of the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare no later than March 31, 2023.
WHEREAS, there are currently more than ninety-two thousand people in Louisiana
over the age of sixty-five living with Alzheimer's disease; and 
WHEREAS, Louisiana has the tenth highest Alzheimer's disease death rate in the
country; and 
WHEREAS, there are currently two hundred three thousand caregivers in Louisiana
providing three hundred sixteen million hours of unpaid care; and 
WHEREAS, Medicaid costs the state seven hundred sixty-five million dollars to care
for people with Alzheimer's disease; and 
WHEREAS, Medicare costs the state thirty thousand seven hundred eighty-six
dollars per capita for people with dementia.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request the Louisiana Alzheimer's Coalition to submit its Alzheimer's state plan to
the office of the governor, speaker of the House of Representatives, president of the Senate,
chairman of the House Committee on Health and Welfare, and chairman of the Senate
Committee on Health and Welfare no later than March 31, 2023.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge
and request the Louisiana Alzheimer's Coalition to include in its state plan an update on
existing resources, services, and capacity relating to the diagnosis and care of individuals
living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia in this state.
