HLS 22RS-4510 ORIGINAL 2022 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 167 BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON COMMENDATIONS: Commends John Stringer on the occasion of his retirement 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend John Stringer on the occasion of his retirement. 3 WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize John Stringer, executive director of the 4Tensas Basin Levee District, and to commend him for dedicating more than four decades to 5minimizing the risks of floods in northeast Louisiana; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer joined the Tensas Basin Levee district on August 1, 1976, 7after returning from the Vietnam War as a combat hero; he began as an administrative 8officer, and after eight years of service, he was named executive director in 1984; and 9 WHEREAS, the Tensas Basin Levee District covers the majority of northeast 10Louisiana and includes the Ouachita River and its tributaries; the district was founded in 111884 and is considered to be the oldest levee district in the state; and 12 WHEREAS, since taking the position of executive director, Mr. Stringer has 13witnessed some of the worst floods to affect northeast Louisiana; he also managed flood 14fight operations during the record flood in 1991 that measured 50.53' on the Monroe flood 15gauge; and 16 WHEREAS, over the course of his impressive career, Mr. Stringer has become a 17flood-control expert, and he is highly-regarded well beyond the borders of the Tensas Basin 18Levee District; additionally, he has witnessed dramatic improvements to flood control 19preparedness; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer retires from his position as executive director of the Tensas 21Basin Levee District on May 19, 2022; he leaves behind him an incredible legacy of Page 1 of 2 HLS 22RS-4510 ORIGINAL HR NO. 167 1dedication to the protection of northeast Louisiana from the devastating effects of floods; he 2is most deserving of the highest recognition. 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend John Stringer on the occasion of his 5retirement; does hereby further recognize Mr. Stringer for his integral role in protecting the 6lives of countless Louisianians through his work in flood control preparedness; and does 7hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to enjoy good health and prosperity as he 8begins his well-earned life in retirement. 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to John 10Stringer.
