HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 167

A RESOLUTION
To commend John Stringer on the occasion of his retirement.
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize John Stringer, executive director of the
Tensas Basin Levee District, and to commend him for dedicating more than four decades to
minimizing the risks of floods in northeast Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer joined the Tensas Basin Levee district on August 1, 1976,
after returning from the Vietnam War as a combat hero; he began as an administrative
officer, and after eight years of service, he was named executive director in 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Tensas Basin Levee District covers the majority of northeast
Louisiana and includes the Ouachita River and its tributaries; the district was founded in
1884 and is considered to be the oldest levee district in the state; and
WHEREAS, since taking the position of executive director, Mr. Stringer has
witnessed some of the worst floods to affect northeast Louisiana; he also managed flood
fight operations during the record flood in 1991 that measured 50.53' on the Monroe flood
gauge; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his impressive career, Mr. Stringer has become a
flood-control expert, and he is highly-regarded well beyond the borders of the Tensas Basin
Levee District; additionally, he has witnessed dramatic improvements to flood control
preparedness; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer retires from his position as executive director of the Tensas
Basin Levee District on May 19, 2022; he leaves behind him an incredible legacy of
dedication to the protection of northeast Louisiana from the devastating effects of floods; he
is most deserving of the highest recognition.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend John Stringer on the occasion of his
retirement; does hereby further recognize Mr. Stringer for his integral role in protecting the
lives of countless Louisianians through his work in flood control preparedness; and does
hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to enjoy good health and prosperity as he
begins his well-earned life in retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to John
Stringer.
