HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 55
BY REPRESENTATIVE HODGES
A RESOLUTION
To commend the cheerleaders of Live Oak High School and Live Oak Junior High School
on winning national championships in 2022.
WHEREAS, the Live Oak High School cheer team from Watson, Louisiana, won the
school's sixth national championship title at the 2022 National High School Cheerleading
Championship held in Orlando, Florida; the win also marks the school's fifth-consecutive
national championship; and
WHEREAS, at the high school competition, Live Oak was awarded 1st Place in
Large Varsity Division II, 2nd Place in Game Day Large Varsity Division II, and 1st Place
in World's Division; the team trains ten months out of the year to prepare their elite stunts
and tumbling routines; in 2021, Varsity TV featured the team in a four-part documentary;
even more impressively, the team also maintains an average GPA of 3.7; and
WHEREAS, the Live Oak Junior High cheer team also put on a dominant showing
at the national championships; at the competition the team was awarded 1st in the nation for
Large Junior High School Team, 1st in the nation for Large Junior High School Game Day
Team, and 2nd in the world for Large Junior High School Team; and  
WHEREAS, in addition to the Live Oak High School and Junior High cheer
program, the Live Oak Rec program has over two hundred athletes ranging from ages three
to fifteen; the four Live Oak Rec cheer teams that competed in Orlando each took home a
first-place award; and
WHEREAS, the athletes who competed for the Live Oak High School, Live Oak
Junior High, and Live Oak Rec cheer teams are a model of consistency and competitive
excellence; and
WHEREAS, the elite-level cheerleaders of the Live Oak cheer teams are led by their
dedicated coaching staffs; the high school cheer team is coached by Maddie Guidry and
Shawn Magee, and the junior high team is coached by Jessica Angelo and Brandon Houck;
and

WHEREAS, Live Oak is most deserving of the highest recognition for consistently
setting the standard for competitive cheering and making the community of Watson and the
state of Louisiana incredibly proud.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the cheerleaders of Live Oak High School
and Live Oak Junior High School on winning national championships in 2022 and does
hereby extend sincere wishes that the program continue to achieve greatness as they set the
standard for excellence in competitive cheerleading.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
coaches of the Live Oak High School, Live Oak Junior High, and Live Oak Rec cheer teams.
