2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 10 BY SENATORS FOIL, BARROW, BERNARD, BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK, CORTEZ, FESI, FIELDS, HARRIS, HENRY, HENSGENS, HEWITT, JACKSON, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MCMATH, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, MORRIS, PEACOCK, PETERSON, POPE, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, TALBOT, TARVER, WARD, WHITE AND WOMACK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To proclaim March 21, 2022, as Louisiana State Capitol Colorectal Cancer Awareness Day in Louisiana. WHEREAS, cancer is ranked second highest cause of death in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, there will be an estimated 28,680 new cases of cancer in Louisiana in calendar year 2022; and WHEREAS, there will be an estimated nearly 10,000 deaths from cancer in Louisiana in 2022, a mortality rate that is well above the national average; and WHEREAS, one of the reasons colorectal cancer has such a high mortality rate is that an estimated forty percent of all at-risk individuals have never been screened; and WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is a highly preventable, treatable, and survivable cancer, especially when screened and diagnosed early; and WHEREAS, screening should happen for everyone between the ages of forty-five and seventy-five; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Health, along with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, has set a goal of increasing screenings by two percentage points in calendar year 2022 in an effort to reduce colorectal cancer rates in Louisiana; the entities will be utilizing strategies for education, public outreach, and greater accessibility to screenings to meet this goal; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Capitol will serve as the official kick-off location for this effort. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 10 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby proclaim March 21, 2022, as Louisiana State Capitol Colorectal Cancer Awareness Day in Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Todd D. Stevens, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
