SLS 22RS-209 ORIGINAL 2022 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 5 BY SENATORS STINE, ABRAHAM AND REESE AND REPRESENTATIVES BOURRIAQUE, FARNUM, GEYMANN, ROMERO AND TARVER CONDOLENCES. Expresses since and heartfelt condolences to the family of mayor Robert "Bob" Hardey on the occasion of his passing. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana to the 3 family of Mayor Robert "Bob" Hardey on the occasion of his passing. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the citizens of Westlake, Louisiana, have 5 learned of the passing of Robert "Bob" Hardey, surrounded by his loving family, on 6 January 29, 2022; and 7 WHEREAS, Bob was a good man who loved his family, whose values and personal 8 qualities made him the exemplary citizen-servant as he followed his guiding principle of 9 "Always do the right thing for the right reason"; and 10 WHEREAS, he served his community for more than a decade on the city council 11 before his election as mayor of the city of Westlake, where his practical approach to 12 government and the ability to make difficult decisions enabled Bob to bring the city of 13 Westlake from near bankruptcy to financial stability; and 14 WHEREAS, as a member of the Southwest Louisiana Partnership associated with 15 the Alliance/Chamber, twice serving two terms as its chairman, Bob's impact in Westlake 16 and southwest Louisiana will be felt by many through the litany of improvements in 17 Westlake which include the new police department, National Golf Course and clubhouse, 18 new housing and apartment complexes, annexation of the Isle of Capri property into the city, Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 5 SLS 22RS-209 ORIGINAL 1 a future riverfront district, and his most personal civic accomplishment, a Veteran's Park; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Bob Hardey stayed in his city during hurricanes and weathered other 4 problems right along with the citizens whom he loved, and in 2021, he was recognized as 5 Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce for his 6 activities and leadership during a time of hardship in southwest Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Janice Peck Hardey; three children, Janae 8 Hardey, Jared (Tammy) Hardey, and Jamie (Keith) Stout; his father, Jerry Hardey; four 9 siblings, Jerilyn (Bobby) Mayo, Michael Hardey, Linda (Billy) Nordt, and Don (Rhonda) 10 Hardey; and seven grandchildren; and 11 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Hardey; and 12 WHEREAS, Robert Hardey's leadership and his personal impact on the people of 13 Westlake and southwest Louisiana is an example to be followed by all, particularly civic 14 leaders, and his presence will be greatly missed. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 16 extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Robert "Bob" Hardey and 17 particularly to his wife, Janice. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 19 wife, Janice Peck Hardey.
