2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 5 BY SENATORS STINE, ABRAHAM AND REESE AND REPRESENTATIVES BOURRIAQUE, FARNUM, GEYMANN, ROMERO AND TARVER A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana to the family of Mayor Robert "Bob" Hardey on the occasion of his passing. WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the citizens of Westlake, Louisiana, have learned of the passing of Robert "Bob" Hardey, surrounded by his loving family, on January 29, 2022; and WHEREAS, Bob was a good man who loved his family, whose values and personal qualities made him the exemplary citizen-servant as he followed his guiding principle of "Always do the right thing for the right reason"; and WHEREAS, he served his community for more than a decade on the city council before his election as mayor of the city of Westlake, where his practical approach to government and the ability to make difficult decisions enabled Bob to bring the city of Westlake from near bankruptcy to financial stability; and WHEREAS, as a member of the Southwest Louisiana Partnership associated with the Alliance/Chamber, twice serving two terms as its chairman, Bob's impact in Westlake and southwest Louisiana will be felt by many through the litany of improvements in Westlake which include the new police department, National Golf Course and clubhouse, new housing and apartment complexes, annexation of the Isle of Capri property into the city, a future riverfront district, and his most personal civic accomplishment, a Veteran's Park; and WHEREAS, Bob Hardey stayed in his city during hurricanes and weathered other problems right along with the citizens whom he loved, and in 2021, he was recognized as Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce for his activities and leadership during a time of hardship in southwest Louisiana; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 5 ENROLLED WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Janice Peck Hardey; three children, Janae Hardey, Jared (Tammy) Hardey, and Jamie (Keith) Stout; his father, Jerry Hardey; four siblings, Jerilyn (Bobby) Mayo, Michael Hardey, Linda (Billy) Nordt, and Don (Rhonda) Hardey; and seven grandchildren; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Hardey; and WHEREAS, Robert Hardey's leadership and his personal impact on the people of Westlake and southwest Louisiana is an example to be followed by all, particularly civic leaders, and his presence will be greatly missed. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Robert "Bob" Hardey and particularly to his wife, Janice.
