1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend the Shreveport Little Theatre on the occasion of its one hundredth consecutive
3 season of live theatrical production.
4 WHEREAS, the Shreveport Little Theatre was founded in 1922, staging its first
5 performance, The Maker of Dreams, at the Shreveport City Hall Auditorium; and
6 WHEREAS, founders Olivia Allen, Opal Woodley Parten, and Julia Elstner Rogers
7 introduced a new type of performance art known as "little theatre" to Shreveport, providing
8 new and experimental opportunities for writers, actors, and audiences alike; and
9 WHEREAS, having staged live productions every year without interruption since the
10 early twentieth century, the Shreveport Little Theatre, also known as "SLT", is one of the
11 oldest continuously operating theatres of its kind in the United States; and
12 WHEREAS, SLT originally opened its landmark theatre at 812 Margaret Place on
13 March 14, 1927, but multiple Shreveport locations have served as production venues
14 throughout its history, including City Hall, the B'nai Zion Temple, the Woman's Department
15 Club, the Grand Opera House, and Theatre On Line; and
16 WHEREAS, through collaboration with Walt Disney Studios and led by actor and
17 director Isobel Rosenbloom, SLT became the first organization to stage live theatrical

SLS 22RS-2059	ORIGINAL
1 WHEREAS, SLT has staged more than three thousand five hundred performances
2 in its first century, undaunted by the Great Depression, World War II, a global pandemic,
3 and despite two devastating fires; and
4 WHEREAS, a 1986 fire substantially damaged the original Margaret Place location's
5 stagehouse and backstage areas, and following partial reconstruction of the structure, a 2008
6 fire destroyed the auditorium and lobby, forcing the theatre to perform in alternate venues
7 once again; and
8 WHEREAS, on March 3, 2011, SLT returned home to Margaret Place, opening its
9 new state-of-the-art facility which shares the original structure's charming Rural English
10 architectural style; the theatre continues to run at that location today; and
11 WHEREAS, operating as a nonprofit organization through the modern-day
12 Shreveport Little Theatre Guild, and with the collaborative efforts of volunteers, members,
13 crew, actors, and its board, the Shreveport Little Theatre continues to delight and challenge
14 the audiences that fill its intimate auditorium today.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16 commend the Shreveport Little Theatre on the occasion of its one hundredth consecutive
17 year of staging live theatrical productions.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
