SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Dr. Vincent G. June on being selected as the sixth chancellor
of South Louisiana Community College.
WHEREAS, in December 2020, after having served as interim chancellor for several
months and a national search, Dr. Vincent G. June was selected as the sixth chancellor of
South Louisiana Community College (SLCC); and
WHEREAS, Dr. June provides oversight for all academic and operational functions
of SLCC's nine campuses in eight parishes, serving more than 17,000 students annually; and
WHEREAS, before joining SLCC, Dr. June served diverse communities in public
higher education for over two decades; and
WHEREAS, Dr. June earned a degree in business and economics from Florida
Agriculture and Mechanical University, and an MBA and PhD in educational leadership
from Washington State University; and
WHEREAS, South Louisiana was a natural fit for Dr. June who was born in Belle
Glade, Florida, an agricultural area of Palm Beach County Florida known for sugarcane
farming and fishing; and
WHEREAS, since assuming his position at SLCC, Dr. June has secured state and
federal grant funds and participated in fundraising and partnership development activities
to support academic and student development programs, scholarships, and institutional
resources totaling over $52.4 million; and
WHEREAS, Dr. June possesses extensive accreditation, institutional
merger-realignment, and governing board experience, and his research interests include
collegewide assessment to support retention, educational leadership in the academic and
student affairs profession, and academic success for special populations in higher education;
and

WHEREAS, June has stated that SLCC provides a rich and deep experience for
students and has expressed his commitment to "embrace the access mission of the
community college"; and
WHEREAS, during his investiture of office ceremony on April 27, 2022, it was
announced that a scholarship fund had been established in his honor for first-generation
students; and
WHEREAS, Dr. June merits a special measure of commendation upon his selection
and investiture as chancellor of SLCC.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Vincent G. June on being selected as chancellor
of the South Louisiana Community College, recognizes and records for posterity his
exemplary leadership, and extends to him best wishes for success in his position.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Dr. Vincent G. June.
