SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116
BY SENATOR MIZELL 
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the Louisiana
State Capitol.
WHEREAS, there are currently more than ninety-two thousand people in Louisiana
suffering from Alzheimer's or other forms of related dementia; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana has the tenth highest death rate for Alzheimer's in the
country; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that more than two hundred three thousand family
caregivers in Louisiana provide three hundred sixteen million hours of unpaid care for
family members with Alzheimer's; and
WHEREAS, studies predict that by the year of 2025, one hundred and ten thousand
Louisiana residents over the age of sixty-five will be living with Alzheimer's disease.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 11, 2022, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby encourage citizens of the great state of Louisiana
to raise awareness of this devastating disease.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be submitted to
Mary Beth Wilkerson of the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
