2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 155 BY SENATOR LUNEAU A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of retired Sheriff Wayne Houck, a beloved public servant who leaves a legacy of compassion and integrity for his family, friends, and community to cherish. WHEREAS, it is with deep sorrow and regret that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the death of Sheriff Houck, who passed away on March 30, 2022, at the age of eighty-three; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Houck was a native of Hico, Louisiana, who started his career with the Ruston Police Department in 1963, and was first elected sheriff in 1979; and WHEREAS, he was a dedicated serviceman, who served Lincoln Parish for forty-one years, and is credited with being the longest serving sheriff in parish history, with a twenty-four-year tenure that spanned from 1980 to 2004; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Houck was reelected sheriff of Lincoln parish five consecutive times, often with no opposition; and WHEREAS, the "Houck" era saw the implementation of Louisiana's first Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office's first K9, the first senior citizen TRIAD program, the building of the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, and the introduction of the neighborhood watch initiative; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Houck is survived by his wife, Doyce Wilson Houck; two daughters, Teresa Houck Yelverton and Amy Houck Sutton; one son, Tracy Wayne Houck; five grandchildren; and a cadre of close friends and associates; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Houck's passing has created a void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of retired Sheriff Wayne Houck.
