SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 157

A RESOLUTION
To commend Ginger Myers on receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of
Louisiana-Lafayette and to recognize her for her work with the LHC Group.
WHEREAS, Ginger Myers was awarded an honorary doctorate of nursing practice
during the University of Louisiana-Lafayette's Spring 2022 commencement ceremonies; and 
WHEREAS, Ginger Myers is a nurse, a community leader, a businesswoman, and
a philanthropist; and
WHEREAS, in 1994, Myers noticed a need in her small community of Palmetto,
Louisiana, for greater access to health care, especially for elderly residents; and
WHEREAS, working around her twelve-hour nursing shifts at Opelousas General
Hospital, Myers began offering her time, knowledge, kindness, and skills to those in need
by visiting and caring for people in their homes; and
WHEREAS, at the urging of community leaders who knew that elderly rural
residents of the area desperately needed access to quality medical care at home, Myers was
instrumental in cofounding St. Landry Home Health - a single small agency that would
become the LHC Group; and
WHEREAS, Ginger Myers was the agency's first nurse and her passion for serving
others inspired the agency's simple yet powerful purpose statement: "It's All About Helping
People" - which still serves as the LHC Group's foundational mission statement; and
WHEREAS, as the company's first nurse, Myers' approach to nursing and caring for
her community formed the foundation of the LHC Group's unique company culture of
service to families, communities, and coworkers at a local and personal level; and
WHEREAS, the LHC Group has grown and provides high quality care to patients
through home health, hospice, home- and community-based services, and facility-based care
through more than twelve million patient encounters each year and with more than thirty
thousand employees at more than nine hundred seventy locations in thirty-seven states and
the District of Columbia; and

WHEREAS, Ginger Myers has worked in a range of nursing and administrative roles
in St. Landry Parish for more than two decades; and
WHEREAS, Myers was employed as a nursing supervisor at LaHaye Eye Center and
was active in opening the first outpatient ophthalmic surgery center in St. Landry Parish; and
WHEREAS, Myers also worked at Doctor's Hospital and was active in coordinating
one of the first rural health clinics in the state, located in Melville, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Ginger Myers served as chairman of the board for the Opelousas
Women's Club, a committee member for the St. Landry/Evangeline American Heart
Association Heart Gala, and a member of the executive committee of Go Red For Women;
and 
WHEREAS, in 2002, Myers received the St. Landry Chamber Business Woman of
the Year Award, and in 2013, she received the Leaders in Philanthropy Award for St. Landry
Parish; and
WHEREAS, Myers is a member of the Acadian Business Hall of Fame, and she was
inducted into the Homecare Association of Louisiana Hall of Honor in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Myers has served on the LHC Group board and is currently on the board
for the Hospice Promise Foundation; and
WHEREAS, in early 2022, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette renamed the
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Department as the LHC Group-Myers School of
Nursing.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Ginger Myers on receiving an honorary doctorate from the University
of Louisiana-Lafayette and recognizes her for her work with the LHC Group.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Ginger Myers.
