SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187

A RESOLUTION
To commend Lieutenant Jennifer Duet of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office on being the
recipient of the 2022 Deputy of the Year Award, presented by the Louisiana Sheriffs'
Association.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association presents the Deputy of the Year
Award to recognize a deputy sheriff who has shown unusual initiative and imagination in
the performance of their duty, and recognizes activities that improve the quality of life in
their community; and
WHEREAS, since 2007, Lieutenant Duet has worked for the Livingston Parish
Sheriff's Office, and is currently working in the Juvenile Division; and
WHEREAS, on November 17, 2019, Lieutenant Duet's daughter, Ariel Bartholomew,
was killed by a drunk driver; and
WHEREAS, when Lieutenant Duet was called to give a victim impact statement,
instead of seeking punishment or revenge, she asked that the driver use the experience to
help others understand the consequences of drinking and driving; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Duet continues to use her voice to speak out against drunk
driving and shares Ariel's story to honor her daughter's legacy; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Duet continues to expand her efforts on this work through
her recent partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jennifer Duet merits the highest commendation and sincere
congratulations for her exemplary public service and for her outstanding contributions to
Livingston Parish, the state of Louisiana, and its citizens.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Lieutenant Jennifer Duet of the Livingston Parish
Sheriff's Office on being the recipient of the 2022 Deputy of the Year Award from the
Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her tireless
dedication and service to the citizens of Livingston Parish and the state of Louisiana, and
does hereby extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness in all her future
endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Lieutenant Jennifer Duet.
