2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 192 BY SENATOR CORTEZ A RESOLUTION To commend Lynwood J. Broussard for 50 years of exemplary public service as justice of the peace for Ward 4 of Lafayette Parish. WHEREAS, Lynwood J. Broussard married the former Marie Ann Comeaux and together they raised five children, three daughters and two sons, and have been blessed with four grandchildren, two granddaughters, and two grandsons; and WHEREAS, a man of faith, Mr. Broussard is a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton where he has been an usher for the past 64 years and is a former member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard graduated from Youngsville High School in 1955 and proudly served in the Louisiana National Guard for six years; and WHEREAS, Lynwood began his work career as supervisor of the Lafayette Parish Commodity Program for 10 years and subsequently served as manager of the Lafayette Parish Food Stamp Issuing Office for 28 years; and WHEREAS, in 1971, he was elected justice of the peace for Ward 4 of Lafayette Parish, and was sworn into office on May 25, 1972; he has officiated over 8,000 wedding ceremonies as of this date, and as a person who is always willing to help the people he serves, he has always maintained a 24/7 open-door policy; and WHEREAS, Lynwood is a man who takes great pride in everything he does, from his impeccable work ethic to his beautiful penmanship; from starching his dress shirts to shining his shoes to the point you can see your reflection in them; he is a man who exemplifies the virtues of honesty, integrity, and professionalism and always stands up for what he believes in, even if he stands alone; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 192 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Lynwood's public service has included serving on such boards and committees as Louisiana Justices of the Peace and Constables Association as a board member representing six parishes, the former vice-president of Lafayette Parish Justices of the Peace and Constables Association, a charter member of the Milton Civic Club in which he served as treasurer, has been a member of St. Anne Knights of Columbus Council 6057 for over 48 years and served as treasurer for over 25 years, from 1959 to the early 1990s, he was the treasurer of the Youngsville Festival of Beauties, and was a little league baseball coach; and WHEREAS, Lynwood is a meticulous recordkeeper, including birth dates of family and friends, always calling to sing "Happy Birthday" on their special day; and WHEREAS, Lynwood has a great passion for his heritage and loves cajun French music which can be heard in his home from sunrise to sunset most days. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Lynwood J. Broussard for his long and distinguished career in exemplary public service as justice of the peace for Ward 4 of Lafayette Parish; and does appreciate how he has served with honesty, integrity, professionalism, and great love for the people of Ward 4, the parish of Lafayette, and the state of Louisiana.
