SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 43

A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Jewelene Jones Turk.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
learned that Jewelene Jones Turk at the age of ninety-two, "having fought a good fight,
finished her course in life, and kept the faith" in accordance with II Timothy 4:7, has
transitioned into a peaceful rest with her Lord Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, Jewelene was born on August 4, 1929, in Minden, Louisiana, to Colbert
Jones and Rosie Mae Jackson Jones Bailey as the second of six children; and
WHEREAS, she accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful choir member at
Mt. Pero Baptist Church and Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, both in Dubberly, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, she was educated in the Webster Parish School System and upon
graduation from Central Consolidated High School in Dubberly, she was united in
matrimony to Junior Turk on May 26, 1951, and during their blessed marriage of forty-two
years, four children were born; and
WHEREAS, Jewelene Turk, fondly called "Ms. Turk" was a homemaker who also
served as the seamstress for the community, then worked at the Louisiana Army
Ammunition Plant for several years, and upon retiring, managed several local laundromats,
continuing to take care of the community members' clothes, and touching numerous lives
while establishing many long-lasting friendships; and
WHEREAS, preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Junior Turk; son, Larry
Turk Jr.; daughter, Victoria Abner; four siblings: Louis T. Jones, Rosie Lee Johnson, Eula
B. Scott, and Maxine Hollingquest; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Turk is survived by daughter, Shirley Turk; son, Robert Turk;
sister, Eura Pat Darrett; goddaughters, Rebecca Myles and Sharon Jefferson; five bonus

daughters, Myrtle Swafford, Drucilla Pierce, Anne Moore, Lillie Norton, and Florine
Stanley; one bonus son, Samuel Orange Jr; four grandchildren, Tari Abner Thomas, Lamaris
Abner, Kwesi Corley, and Larryante Rogers; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Thomas,
Tayler Thomas, Kwesi Jr., and Damaysia Corley, and a host of loving nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends; and
WHEREAS, those whose clothes were taken care of and blessed by Ms. Turk's love
will feel a deep void, they will rejoice in her memories, and know that she is now at peace
in the arms of her Lord.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Jewelene Jones
Turk, and extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brought
to the members of the Minden community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Jewelene Jones Turk.
