2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67 BY SENATOR BERNARD A RESOLUTION To commend Eric Andolsek on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Erik Andolsek; and WHEREAS, born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Eric Andolsek was an outstanding football lineman at Thibodaux High School showing incredible versatility by playing both on offense and defense; and WHEREAS, as a senior in 1983, he was named an Adidas Prep All-American selection; and WHEREAS, Andolsek chose to stay in his home state to play football at Louisiana State University (LSU); and WHEREAS, the six-foot two-inch, two hundred eighty-six pound freshman started in three games his freshman year and earned a full-time starting spot on the offensive line as a sophomore; and WHEREAS, in the 1985 Sugar Bowl against the University of Nebraska, Andolsek again showed his versatility, but this time at the college level playing both offense and defense; and WHEREAS, Andolsek received a multitude of honors and awards at LSU including being named to the Football News Freshman All-American team in 1984, and the All-Louisiana team in 1985, 1986, and 1987; and WHEREAS, he was a member of the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) team when LSU won the SEC conference championship in 1986, and again in 1987, when LSU finished Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 67 ENROLLED ranked as one of the top five National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I football teams in the nation; and WHEREAS, in 1986, Sporting News named Andolsek as one of the best offensive guards in the nation and Football News named him as a third-team All-American selection; and WHEREAS, Andolsek was very popular with his college teammates and was named a team captain in 1986 and 1987, and was also named the outstanding senior player in spring practice in 1987; and WHEREAS, Andolsek was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1988, and in his rookie season, he played thirteen games and added a kickoff return for three yards to his career statistics; and WHEREAS, Andolsek started in the position of left guard for all sixty-one games for Detroit over the next three years and helped the team to its first postseason berth in eight years, and aided running back teammate Barry Sanders to a gain of more than one thousand yards in a season; and WHEREAS, in 1991, in his last season with the Detroit Lions, the team posted a record of twelve wins and four losses and won its division title; and WHEREAS, the Detroit Lions have since named its outstanding offensive lineman award after Eric Andolsek and LSU has named its award for the outstanding senior football player in spring practice the Eric Andolsek Award; and WHEREAS, Eric Andolsek was also named to the LSU Modern Day Team of the Century in 1993. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Eric Andolsek on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
