2022 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 68 BY SENATOR BERNARD A RESOLUTION To commend Kyle Williams on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Kyle Williams; and WHEREAS, Kyle Williams is a native of Ruston, Louisiana, where he graduated from Ruston High School and was rated as one of the nation's top defensive prospects in 2002; and WHEREAS, in his senior year of high school, Williams was named the Louisiana Class 5A Defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) after recording seventy-eight tackles, seventeen for losses and seven sacks, and in that season, he recorded six forced fumbles, four recovered fumbles, and one interception; and WHEREAS, as a former Louisiana State University (LSU) All-American standout, Williams played in forty-six games with thirty-three starts; and WHEREAS, Williams was named a second-team Associated Press All-American in his senior year at LSU and helped the LSU Tigers claim the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) title in 2003; and WHEREAS, during his career at LSU, Williams had one hundred forty tackles with twenty-six tackles for loss and he had sixteen and one-half sacks; and WHEREAS, Williams was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 2006 National Football League Draft; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 68 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Williams spent his entire NFL career playing defensive tackle for the Bills and played in one hundred eighty-three games and was a starter in one hundred seventy-eight games; and WHEREAS, Williams' best season with the Bills was in 2013 when he totaled sixty-eight tackles with ten and one-half sacks and twenty-two quarterback hits; and WHEREAS, Kyle Williams, a six-time Pro Bowler, was described as the "heart and soul" of the Bills during his professional football career; and WHEREAS, during the last football game he played as a member of the Buffalo Bills, Williams had three tackles and, in what turned out to be the final play of his career, Williams caught a nine-yard pass; and WHEREAS, at the time of his retirement, Williams had six hundred ten tackles and sacks, making him one of the top Bills' players in franchise history, and his forty-eight and one-half sacks the most among defensive tackles in a Bills' uniform; and WHEREAS, Kyle Williams was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 2021 class. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kyle Williams on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
