SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

A RESOLUTION
To commend Teddy Allen upon receiving the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in Sports
Journalism and on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall
of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talent worthy of being named to the Hall
of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious honor offered
to sports media in the state and recipients are carefully chosen after an extensive deliberation
by a forty-member expert panel based on their professional accomplishments in local, state,
regional, and national arenas; and
WHEREAS, Teddy Allen, an acclaimed north Louisiana writer, has been selected
for the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism from the Louisiana Sports
Writers Association and a member of the 2022 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction
Class; and
WHEREAS, Allen graduated from Louisiana Tech University having earned a
bachelors degree in 1982 and a masters degree in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Teddy Allen has been recognized as north Louisiana's preeminent
feature columnist for over thirty years; and
WHEREAS, since the mid-1980s, Allen has accumulated numerous awards from the
Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) and has been nationally recognized for his
work for the Shreveport Journal, The Times in Shreveport, and The Times-Picayune in New
Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Allen has won the Associated Press Sports Editors national feature
writing award multiple times, the LSWA Story of the Year, the LSWA Columnist of the
Year, and the LSWA Sportswriter of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Allen has won both the Ernie Pyle Award as the top columnist in
Mississippi and Louisiana, and Columnist of the Year in the Louisiana National Press; and
WHEREAS, Allen's work has been featured in the Poynter Institute's annual "Best
Newspaper Writing"; and
WHEREAS, Allen is the author of three books and is the co-founder of designated
writers dot com, an online publication including columns, features, and videos of his work;
and
WHEREAS, in 2008, Allen returned to his alma mater as a writer in the university's
communication department; doing extensive radio broadcasting over the past ten years for
Tech sports; and serving as a master of ceremonies at many university events; and
WHEREAS, Teddy Allen has served as the master of ceremonies for the Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame, year after year, for the better part of the last two decades.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Teddy Allen for receiving the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in
Sports Journalism and on being inducted into the 2022 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of
Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Teddy Allen.
