ENROLLED ACT No. 366 2023 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 250 BY REPRESENTATIVE BISHOP 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:1907(A)(1) and to enact R.S. 47:1907(L) and (M), relative 3 to assessor compensation; to authorize assessors to increase their annual 4 compensation up to a certain amount over a certain period of time; to provide for 5 certain requirements and limitations; to require the publication of certain notice; to 6 provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters. 7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 8 Section 1. R.S. 47:1907(A)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 47:1907(L) 9 and (M) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 10 ยง1907. Salaries 11 A.(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, except the 12 provisions of Subsections H, I, J, and K through M of this Section, in the 13 performance of all duties required of them by law, the assessors of the various 14 parishes shall receive an annual compensation, to be paid monthly on their own 15 warrant, based on the applicable population of the respective parishes, not to exceed 16 the compensation schedule provided for in this Paragraph according to the latest 17 decennial United States Census or the population estimates published pursuant to the 18 United States Bureau of the Census Federal State Cooperative Program for 19 Population Estimates. In addition to all other forms of compensation which are authorized for 7 assessors under the provisions of this Section, an assessor may increase his annual 8 compensation by an amount not to exceed five percent in calendar year 2023. 9 M.(1) In addition to all other forms of compensation which are authorized 10 for assessors under the provisions of this Section, an assessor may increase his 11 annual compensation by an amount not to exceed five percent for the term beginning 12 after December 31, 2024. 13 (2) The additional compensation authorized pursuant to the provisions of this 14 Subsection shall become effective if the assessor publishes notice of his intent to 15 increase his compensation on two separate days in the official journal of the parish 16 in which the assessor's office is situated. The last day of publication of the notice 17 shall be at least thirty days prior to the date the assessor increases his compensation. 18 Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2023; if vetoed by the governor 19 and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on July 1, 20 2023, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.
