HB 329 Original 2023 Regular Session	Thompson
Abstract: Defines "municipality" for the purposes of payment for coroner's services and
provides for the payment of expenses incurred in the disposition of paupers arranged
by the coroners.
Present law provides that certain fees for coroner's services shall be paid by the governing
authority of the parish or municipality.
Proposed law retains present law and adds a definition for municipality, which excludes
present law from applying to municipal corporations of 1,000 or fewer inhabitants.
Present law provides that disposition expenses for paupers shall be paid by the parish or
municipality of the decedent's domicile if located in La., or if the decedent's domicile is not
in La., the parish or municipality where the death occurred.
Proposed law retains present law and requires that disposition expenses for paupers be paid
by the parish if the decedent's domicile or where the death occurred is a municipal
corporation having one thousand or fewer inhabitants.
(Adds R.S. 13:5706(I) and 5715(A)(3))
