HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 13
BY REPRESENTATIVE BOURRIAQUE AND SENATOR HENSGENS
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Mayor Mark Piazza of Abbeville on the occasion of his retirement from civil
service.
WHEREAS, Mayor Mark Piazza has dedicated more than three decades of service
to municipal government; he is a lifelong resident of Abbeville and the son of Paul and
Felecie "Pete" Piazza; he and his siblings grew up in their family business, Piazza's Office
Supply; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza is a graduate of Vermilion Catholic High School and the
University of Southwestern Louisiana; he met his wife, Suzanne Harrington Piazza, while
in college, and they have two sons, Charles and Christopher; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza served for twelve years on the Abbeville city council
prior to his election as mayor in 2002; he dedicated a total of thirty-two years to public
service; and
WHEREAS, throughout his career in public service, Mayor Piazza served on
countless boards including the Municipal Employees' Retirement System and the Louisiana
Municipal Association; he is also a member of the Abbeville Kiwanis Club and the Giant
Omelette Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza was instrumental in creating Lafitte Drive-in-Park, Keep
Abbeville Beautiful, the Abbeville Main Street Program, Harmony Park, the Sam Guarino
Blacksmith Shop Museum, the Military Hall of Fame Museum, the Abbeville Parks and
Recreation Department, and the Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission; he also played an
instrumental role in establishing Sounds on the Square; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza also served as chairman of the Vermilion Chamber and
the Louisiana Cattle Festival Association, as parish director of Boy Scouts of America, and
in many other civic leadership roles; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Piazza facilitated numerous improvements to Abbeville's
infrastructure throughout his tenure as mayor, including upgrading the Chris Crusta Airport
Terminal and the city's drainage and utilities; he is most deserving of the highest recognition
on the occasion of his retirement.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Mayor Mark Piazza of Abbeville on the occasion of his retirement from civil
service and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to prosper as he begins a
new and productive phase in his life.
