ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 31 BY REPRESENTATIVES PRESSLY, BAGLEY, COX, CREWS, GLOVER, HORTON, JENKINS, MCCORMICK, MCMAHEN, PHELPS, AND SEABAUGH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Louisiana State University in Shreveport professor Dr. Alexandre Mikaberidze on being named a Fulbright Scholar. WHEREAS, Dr. Alexandre Mikaberidze is a professor of history at Louisiana State University in Shreveport; he holds the Ruth Herring Noel endowed chair, and he is also a popular professor, having been named the LSU Student Government Association's "Professor of the Year" in 2016 and 2021; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mikaberidze specializes in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European history with a particular focus on the Napoleonic Wars, early modern France, Russia and the Soviet Union, military and diplomacy, the Ottoman Empire, and the Safavid Iran Caucasus and Georgia; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mikaberidze has taught at the United States Naval College, and he has worked in the ministry of foreign affairs of the nation of Georgia; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mikaberidze has received international awards and recognition on numerous occasions; his awards include the Legion d'Honneur from the International Napoleonic Society in 2011 for his contributions to Napoleonic studies, the La Médaille d'Or du Rayonnement Culturel La Renaissance Française in 2010 for his contributions to Napoleonic studies, and the Distinguished Book Award from the Society of Military History in 2020; he was also short-listed by the Royal United Services Institute for the 2020 Duke of Wellington Medal for Military History; and WHEREAS, Dr. Mikaberidze authored The Napoleonic Wars: A Global History, which won him the internationally prestigious Gilder-Lehrman Military History Prize in 2020; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 31 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Dr. Mikaberidze is also a recognized expert in the history of diplomacy in Eastern Europe and the Caucus region of the world, which has led the Fulbright Scholars Program to name him as a 2023 Fulbright Scholar; the program will now support his transnational and comparative research on the Caucus region and fund his travel for two years; and WHEREAS, Dr. Alexandre Mikaberidze is most deserving of the highest recognition for his incredible academic accomplishments and for his service to the United States. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louisiana State University in Shreveport professor Dr. Alexandre Mikaberidze on being named a Fulbright Scholar and does hereby sincerely thank him for his incredible contributions to historical scholarship.
