ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 9 BY REPRESENTATIVES MINCEY, ADAMS, BACALA, BRYANT, CARRIER, ROBBY CARTER, DUBUISSON, EDMONDS, HODGES, IVEY, JENKINS, MIKE JOHNSON, KNOX, MACK, MOORE, MUSCARELLO, PIERRE, AND STAGNI A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To urge and request the Department of Veterans Affairs, in conjunction with the office of state buildings and in consultation with the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism's state historic preservation officer, to plan and implement, subject to the approval of the governor, the president of the Senate, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, a Purple Heart Trail in the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park, located on the grounds surrounding the state capitol. WHEREAS, the valor and sacrifice of soldiers have been an integral part of our nation's history since before we were a nation; General George Washington saw the need to recognize and encourage military merit in the Continental Army during the American Revolution; he selected a purple heart as the signifier of such merit; and WHEREAS, through the decades and centuries, the use and significance of the Purple Heart award have evolved, but the merit it represents has never been in short supply in the hearts of America's military personnel; and WHEREAS, in our own time among those outside of military service, the Purple Heart is probably the best known and most respected of all military honors; Americans are ever grateful for the battlefield sacrifices made by recipients of the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, commemoration and remembrance of Purple Heart recipients is always appropriate, and the addition of a Purple Heart Trail to the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park at the state capitol is a fitting way to commemorate and remember. Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 9 ENROLLED THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Veterans Affairs, in conjunction with the office of state buildings and in consultation with the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism's state historic preservation officer, to plan and implement, subject to the approval of the governor, the president of the Senate, and the speaker of the House of Representatives, a Purple Heart Trail in the Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park, located on the grounds surrounding the state capitol.
