HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 93
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARPENTER AND SENATOR B ARROW
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express the condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Julie Tregre
Cherry.
WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the Legislature of
Louisiana has learned of the passing, on October 25
th
, 2022, of Julie Tregre Cherry; and 
WHEREAS, Julie Tregre Cherry was an educator, student, music minister, fierce
advocate, and dedicated public servant, who immensely fought for equity and justice for the
underserved and under-represented people and communities in this state; and 
WHEREAS, in conjunction with her advocacy work, Ms. Cherry served on numerous
boards and commissions, including the Louisiana Educational Television Authority, the
Baton Rouge Fire and Police Civil Service Board, and the Workers' Compensation Advisory
Council; and 
WHEREAS, her most recent public service was serving as the secretary-treasurer of
the Louisiana American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organization (AFL-
CIO), where she testified, on numerous occasions, before the House and Senate labor and
industrial relations committees; and 
WHEREAS, in 2014, she received national recognition with the Presbrey Champion
of Labor Award from the Workers' Injury Law and Advocacy Group, and, in 2012, she
received the Dragon Slayer Award from the Louisiana Workers' Advocates; and 
WHEREAS, in addition to her extensive advocacy work, Ms. Cherry was a recent
law school graduate of the Southern University Law Center and as quoted by her loved ones
"was looking forward to the next chapter in her professional life helping underserved and
under-resourced people in Louisiana"; and

WHEREAS, Julie Tregre Cherry leaves to cherish her memory her devoted partner,
Richard LeBouef; daughter, Elaine Blacharski, and her husband Tony; sons, Aaron Cherry,
and his wife Elisabeth, Luke Cherry, and his wife Nicole, and Jacob Cherry, and his wife
Juliette; grandchildren, Reed, Penelope, Aaron Jr., James, Arthur, and Louis; sisters, Marie
Rourke, and her husband Mike, Patricia DeWeese, and her husband Danny, and Jeanne
"Cathy" Kelly, and her husband Larry; and an extended family of nieces and nephews; she
will be deeply missed but certainly not forgotten.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express heartfelt condolences on the death of Julie Tregre Cherry and does hereby extend
sincerest wishes that her family, friends, and loved ones find comfort in their shared
memories of her life.
BE  IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Julie Tregre Cherry.
