HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 117

A RESOLUTION
To commend North Central High School for the academic and athletic achievements of its
students.
WHEREAS, the North Central High School Hurricanes captured the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association 2023 Non-Select Division IV state title by defeating the
Franklin Senior High School Hornets, 59-55, in the championship game held at Burton
Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Basil Brown II has now led the North Central basketball
program to back-to-back state titles and four in the past five seasons; and
WHEREAS, senior De'Vion Lavergne and junior McKennis Savoie scored a
combined forty points to hold off the Hornets and claim their third championship as
teammates; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the achievements of the basketball team, North Central
students Ethan Bush and Kaedon Jenkins placed first in the 2023 Louisiana History Day
State Competition held at the World War II Museum in New Orleans; they will now be
competing in the National History Day Competition held in Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Alderman April Butler-Goudeau went above and beyond to ensure that
both Ethan and Kaedon had the opportunity to showcase their academic skills on both the
state and national levels; and
WHEREAS, North Central High School is most deserving of the highest recognition
for its many incredible academic and athletic achievements this year.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend North Central High School for the academic
and athletic achievements of its students and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the
students and teachers at the school continue their incredible work and always strive for
greatness.
