HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 134

A RESOLUTION
To commend Deputy Brett Savant of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office on being named
2023 Deputy of the Year by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association.
WHEREAS, Deputy Brett Savant has served the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office
for more than a decade; he began his tenure working in the detention center and later moved
to uniform patrol where he served until 2018; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Savant now serves as a school resource officer in Livingston
Parish and thrives in the school setting; as a former patient of St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital and survivor of childhood cancer, he goes above and beyond the call of duty to
exhibit genuine compassion for the children he serves; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Savant's passion for serving Louisiana's youth combined with
his experience as a school resource officer in Livingston Parish motivated him to create the
nonprofit organization "Save Our Kidz"; he created the charity after noticing that, outside
of the school nurse's stations, local schools had no additional first aid or lifesaving
equipment such as tourniquets and choking rescue devices; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Savant further realized the increasing need for improved
security and lockdown protocols in schools, with more than two thousand school shootings
in the United States since 1970; he understands that in order to lessen the burden on first
responders and increase their odds of successfully providing medical attention, schools must
be equipped with the necessary gear to immediately respond to an emergency situation; and
WHEREAS, through Save Our Kidz, Deputy Savant has collected monetary
donations to buy and distribute both tourniquets and choking rescue devices to his schools;
he hopes to expand his reach to serve all of Livingston Parish and the state of Louisiana; his
charity has provided lifesaving devices to eleven Louisiana schools as of January 2023; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Brett Savant of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office was
recently named Deputy of the Year by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, and he is most
deserving of the highest recognition for his unusual initiative and imagination in the
performance of his duty and for improving the quality of life in Livingston Parish and the
state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Deputy Brett Savant of the Livingston Parish
Sheriff's Office on being named 2023 Deputy of the Year by the Louisiana Sheriffs'
Association and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to prosper in all of his
endeavors.
