ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 141 BY REPRESENTATIVE HILFERTY A RESOLUTION To recognize May 2023 as Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes Awareness Month. WHEREAS, Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of disorders that affect the body's connective tissue including the skin, joints, blood vessels, gut, and many other organs and tissues; and WHEREAS, EDS affects more than one in five thousand people of all ages, races, and genders and is a chronic, lifelong condition; and WHEREAS, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is diagnosed when the musculoskeletal complications of joint hypermobility and joint stability (ease of injury, joint pain, and dislocations) arise in a person who does not have the defining features of another underlying syndrome; and WHEREAS, a network of EDS and HSD support groups help connect those managing life with these conditions as well as better informing the healthcare community and the public; and WHEREAS, early and accurate diagnosis can provide the opportunity to create life-saving medical plans and improved quality of life; and WHEREAS, there is currently no treatment or cure for EDS or HSD; and WHEREAS, further medical research and awareness can bring hope for treatment and a cure. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize May 2023 as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Awareness month.
