ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY REPRESENTATIVE FIRMENT A RESOLUTION To urge and request the state Department of Education to study and make recommendations relative to school lunches. WHEREAS, balanced nutrition throughout the day contributes to student success in and out of the classroom; school meal programs can play an important role in supporting overall student health and academic achievement; and WHEREAS, it is important that school food service departments follow food safety and nutrition guidelines; and WHEREAS, serving meals that offer a variety of fresh produce, quality meat, and freshly-prepared foods will entice more students to eat well during the day; and WHEREAS, the state Department of Education and public school governing authorities and nonpublic schools throughout the state should all place a priority on offering healthy, nutritious food to students through the school lunches offered to them. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the state Department of Education to study and make recommendations relative to school lunches. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the state Department of Education shall submit a written report of its findings and recommendations to the House Committee on Education not later than thirty days prior to the beginning of the 2024 Regular Session of the Legislature.
