HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 171
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
A RESOLUTION
To commend Breka Peoples for her community service.
WHEREAS, Breka Peoples is a leading voting rights and police brutality activist in
the state of Louisiana, who is known by many as the "Godmother of Justice"; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples activism includes leading a march of one hundred fifty
black men to voting polls in Mansfield, Louisiana, in 2020, and leading many protests that
drove policy change in both Shreveport and the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples is the wife of Kwearri Peoples and the mother of four,
Sidney, Nathan, Kennedie, and Kaitlyn; she is also the founder of The Peoples Promise, a
grassroots lobbying organization that is actively involved with the legislature; moreover, The
Peoples Promise Youth Division, which is among the most effective youth-led civic
organizations in the state, works to impact policy in Caddo Parish regarding access to higher
education; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Peoples has received numerous awards and honors for her
activism, including the Louisiana Lefty Organizing Award and the Ralph Waldo Emerson
Award; she is most deserving of the highest recognition for her commitment to community
service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Breka Peoples for her community service
and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she continue her inspiring work that brings
great pride to the state of Louisiana.
