HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 23

A RESOLUTION
To commend Coach M.L. Woodruff on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of
Fame.
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize legendary Parkview Baptist School
baseball coach, Coach M.L. Woodruff, on the occasion of his induction into the Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff began his coaching career in 1981 as the head baseball
coach at Dolye High School in Livingston Parish; one year later, he accepted an offer from
Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge to serve as the head baseball coach, head basketball
coach, and assistant football coach; and
WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff would go on to spend the remainder of his three-
decades-long teaching and coaching career at Parkview Baptist; he served as the Eagles'
head baseball coach for twenty-seven years, developing the school's program into one of the
top programs among all classifications in the state of Louisiana; under his leadership, the
team won twenty-one district titles, made twenty-three playoff appearances, and won eleven
state championships; and
WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff achieved a career coaching record of six hundred three
wins, one hundred sixty-three losses, and two ties, giving him a winning percentage of .785;
as another indicator of his iconic and legendary coaching status, his teams at Parkview
Baptist achieved a perfect record of twenty-two wins and zero losses in all semifinals and
finals games; and
WHEREAS, Coach Woodruff was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's
Coach of the Year in 1986, 1987, and 1989; he was also honored by the American Baseball
Congress Association as the 2007 National Coach of the Year; he was inducted into the
Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Louisiana Baseball Coaches
Association Hall of Fame in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Coach M. L. Woodruff is a true coaching icon who is most deserving
of the highest recognition for his successful leadership of the Parkview Baptist School
baseball program.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Coach M. L. Woodruff on his induction into
the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue
to prosper and serve as a model of genuine coaching greatness.
