RÉSUMÉ DIGEST HR 254 2023 Regular Session Schexnayder Existing House Rule, relative to usage of the House Chamber, prohibits the House Chamber from being used as a public meeting place and confines its use to the House of Representatives and committees thereof and the Legislature of La. and committees thereof. Prior House Rule provided that when the House was adjourned or during the time between sessions of the legislature, the House Chamber may be utilized by the state central committee and other established organizations of each recognized political party, by nonprofit and educational organizations for the conduct of mock legislative sessions, and by other state agencies for the conduct of cultural or educational programs, subject to the approval of the Speaker and in accordance with a usage policy established by the Speaker. New House Rule provides instead that beyond users authorized by existing House Rule the use of the House Chamber is confined to the Democratic State Central Committee, the Young Republicans of La., the Young Democrats of La., the Republican State Central Committee, the Pelican Boys' State Legislature, the Pelican Girls' State Legislature, the YMCA Youth Legislature, the Silver Haired Legislature, the La. Jaycee Action Legislature, and the La. Camp Fire Councils Legislature. Effective June 7, 2023. (Amends House Rule 1.1)
