HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 288

A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Martha
Archinard.
WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
Representatives has learned of the death of Martha Archinard; and
WHEREAS, Martha was born on December 4, 1939, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to
Pearl Clark and Alfred Ceymore; she attended Southern University where she received a
bachelor of science degree in education; and
WHEREAS, Martha married Thomas Archinard in 1964, and together, they brought
two beautiful children into the world, Christopher Archinard and Dr. Tom-meka Archinard;
and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Archinard taught for more than four decades in Louisiana schools,
serving two years in Caddo Parish and forty years in Calcasieu Parish, and her husband and
children have all worked in education; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Archinard was among the first black schoolteachers at Forest K.
White Middle School; some of her favorite students were State Representative Wilford
"Dan" Carter, Judge Gene Thibodeaux, and former police juror Kevin Guidry; she was also
a part of the Calcasieu Parish teacher's union and the Louisiana Retired Teachers
Association; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Archinard was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and she
loved fishing, politics, and her six grandchildren; she also admired Malcolm X, Muhammad
Ali, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Martha Archinard was a beloved pillar of the Calcasieu Parish
community; she will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love will live on forever in the
hearts and minds of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Martha
Archinard and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that her family, friends, and loved ones
find comfort in their shared memories of her beautiful life.
