HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 3
BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLARD
A RESOLUTION
To designate Tuesday, April 25, 2023, as Step Up Louisiana Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Census, almost one in five Louisiana families live
in poverty; Louisiana consistently ranks last in education in the nation; and
WHEREAS, Step Up Louisiana is a multiracial and multigenerational membership-
based organization that engages in campaigns that directly impact the lives of its members;
the fight for education and economic justice in the south is a fundamental fight against
structural racism and oppression; since 2017, Step Up Louisiana has been organizing,
building power, and pursuing systemic change through policy, education, and the cultivation
of community; and
WHEREAS, Step Up Louisiana has won fights to ban the box, create equal pay for
equal work, raise the minimum wage, and implement a sustainable community school
model; and
WHEREAS, on this day, workers, parents, formerly incarcerated people, and
community members from across the state of Louisiana will make their voices heard during
the legislative session; the Step Up Louisiana Day is a day to build fellowship with one
another and to raise awareness among lawmakers; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana to recognize Step Up Louisiana Day. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 25, 2023, as Step Up
Louisiana Day at the state capitol and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that Step Up
Louisiana continues to receive the necessary support to continue its inspiring mission.
