HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 41
BY REPRESENTATIVE MCFARLAND
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Mr. Antavion "Tay" Moore for being the recipient of the
2023 Truman Scholarship award.
WHEREAS, the Truman Scholarship is the premier graduate fellowship in the United
States for public service leadership and is endowed by the United States Congress in
recognition of President Harry S. Truman; and
WHEREAS, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation considered seven hundred
five candidates from two hundred seventy-five colleges and universities and selected sixty-
two candidates for their collegiate accomplishments and demonstrated desire to work in
public service; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Antavion "Tay" Moore is from Ringgold, Louisiana, is a student
in the Roger Hadfield Ogden Honors College of Louisiana State University, and is studying
political science and music; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore made the most of his collegiate career by being named a
Ron Brown Scholar and a Louisiana Service and Leadership (LASAL) Scholar, serving as
co-president of Collegiate 4-H of Louisiana State University, serving as project manager for
Project 225, serving on the National 4-H Council Board of Trustees, and being named a John
Robert Lewis Scholar through the Faith and Politics Institute; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore indicated his desire to work in rural communities like his
own and has worked in the office of the mayor of Ringgold and the United States
Department of Agriculture office of rural development; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Moore stated in his scholarship application that his policy proposals
suggests incorporating service-learning into Louisiana Department of Education curriculums
to combat Louisiana's high youth-disconnection rate as a way to combat low enrollment and
dropout rates among young people in rural north Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moore has demonstrated leadership potential, academic excellence,
and a commitment to public service consistent with the goals of the Truman Foundation,
leading that organization to name Mr. Moore as a 2023 Truman Scholar.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Antavion "Tay" Moore
on his Truman Scholarship award and express its confidence that he will continue to make
significant contributions to public service, especially in rural communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.
Antavion "Tay" Moore.
