ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 45 BY REPRESENTATIVE MAGEE A RESOLUTION To recognize Thursday, April 20, 2023, as Louisiana Music Advocacy Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, music and music creators are Louisiana's greatest natural and renewable resource; and WHEREAS, Louisiana is the birthplace of many of the world's unique musical styles, including jazz, blues, zydeco, swamp pop, rock and roll, gospel, country, bounce, rhythm & blues, and Cajun music; and WHEREAS, protecting the creative freedom of Louisiana's unique combination of musicians, including Grammy nominees and winners, creates an environment for continued innovation in music; and WHEREAS, the music industry in Louisiana is an economic driver contributing $1.2 billion to the state's gross domestic product and employing over thirty thousand citizens, yet it has not been fully recognized as a true industry akin to the food, tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing industries; and WHEREAS, in a state where tourism is one of the largest industries, music is regarded as one of the primary attractions that cause visitors to come to Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Louisiana has numerous post-secondary education institutions devoted to educating future music creators and music industry professionals; and WHEREAS, recognizing this economic importance and incentivizing growth in Louisiana's support system for developing music industry careers is vital for our current and future music creators and the economy. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 45 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Thursday, April 20, 2023, as Louisiana Music Advocacy Day at the state capitol and does hereby recognize the importance of the state's music creators and of supporting opportunities for growth in this important industry.
