HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 77

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Northwood High School Lady Gators basketball team on winning the
Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV state championship.
WHEREAS, the Northwood High School Lady Gators claimed the 2023 Division IV
state title by defeating the Southern University Laboratory High School Lady Kittens, 54-51,
in a thrilling comeback victory in the championship game at Southeastern Louisiana
University Center; and
WHEREAS, Lady Gators Head Coach Lashonda Cooper inspired her team to rally
from an eighteen-point deficit and force overtime; the team took its first lead in overtime and
carried that momentum through to the final buzzer; and
WHEREAS, Nyasia Moran was named Most Outstanding Player after scoring
eighteen points and grabbing six rebounds in the championship game; she scored seven of
her eighteen points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Gators outscored the Lady Kittens 19-8
in the final eight minutes of regulation; and
WHEREAS, the coaches, players, and training staff of the Northwood High School
Lady Gators basketball team are most deserving of the highest recognition for their
incredible accomplishments.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Northwood High School girls' basketball
team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division IV state
championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches, players, and
training staff continue their excellent work and always strive for greatness.
