HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 78
BY REPRESENTATIVES BAGLEY AND SCHAMERHORN
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Zwolle High School boys' basketball team on winning the Louisiana High
School Athletic Association 2023 Division V state championship.
WHEREAS, the Zwolle High School Hawks claimed the 2023 Division V state title
by defeating the Anacoco High School Indians, 40-25, in the championship game at Burton
Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, although the victory marks the Hawks' first state title since 2017, it also
gives the program a share of the state-record sixteen Louisiana High School Athletic
Association (LHSAA) state titles; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bradley McLaren has led the Zwolle High School
basketball program to twelve of its sixteen LHSAA state titles; this season, his team added
to that winning pedigree by not only another state title, but also an imposing record of thirty-
three wins and only two losses; and
WHEREAS, Zwolle High School senior Kenneth Montgomery was voted Most
Outstanding Player of the Division V championship after he finished with fourteen points
and eleven rebounds; the Hawks' Preston Sanders also added thirteen points and ten
rebounds; and
WHEREAS, Zwolle High School is most deserving of the highest recognition for its
decades-long dominance of boys' basketball.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Zwolle High School boys' basketball
team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2023 Division V state
championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the team's coaches, players, and
training staff continue their incredible work and always strive for greatness.
