ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 79 BY REPRESENTATIVE HARRIS A RESOLUTION To designate Wednesday, April 26, 2023, as University of Louisiana System Day at the state capitol and to commend the University of Louisiana System for its contributions. WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana System, or UL System, is vital to Louisiana's economic prosperity, with its fundamental mission to emphasize teaching, research, and community service to enhance the quality of life for the state's citizens; and WHEREAS, the UL System comprises nine distinct member institutions: Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana Monroe, and University of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, throughout its nine member institutions, there are more than ninety thousand students seeking knowledge that will ultimately improve the human condition; and WHEREAS, the UL System offers a comprehensive education in a broad number of fields, including: education, nursing, cybersecurity, maritime, humanities, physical sciences, music, allied health, engineering, social sciences, pharmacy, business administration, and public administration; and WHEREAS, the UL System has identified five core competencies necessary to thrive in this twenty-first century economy: communication competence, critical and creative problem solving, adaptable resilience, cultural competence, and self-reflective awareness; and WHEREAS, the UL System celebrates sixteen thousand five hundred graduates annually, all of whom have developed the core competencies necessary for life and career success; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 79 ENROLLED WHEREAS, UL System faculty contribute to a world-class knowledge base that is transferable to educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprises; their extensive talents and resources are used to solve economic, environmental, and social challenges; and WHEREAS, researchers throughout the UL System continue to contribute through innovation; during the past four years, the system's research portfolio has resulted in one hundred twenty-one invention disclosures, and seventy-five new patent applications and produced ten licenses; and WHEREAS, the UL System is an economic driver for the state with its annual economic impact of $11.9 billion that supports one out of every fifteen jobs in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, a system focused on creating the most educated generation in Louisiana's history is worthy of investment. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 26, 2023, as University of Louisiana System Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the University of Louisiana System for its manifold contributions to the state of Louisiana.
