ENROLLED 2023 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 89 BY REPRESENTATIVE GLOVER A RESOLUTION To commend V. Esther Pouncey on the occasion of her ninety-ninth birthday. WHEREAS, Van Esther Pouncey was born on April 29, 1924, in Curtis, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Esther attended Douglas Island elementary school and graduated from Central Colored High School; at 16, she worked as a babysitter and later worked for J.P. Beaird in a private home; this position lasted fifty years; and WHEREAS, she met and married the love of her life, Willie Pannell, and they had seven children; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Pouncey is a woman of strong faith, and that faith has sustained her through the challenges of nearly a century; and WHEREAS, she is a member of St. Luke's CME Church; she was a member of the choir; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Pouncey enjoys quilting, and her quilts have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum; she is a member of Intergenerational Quilters; and WHEREAS, she is a proud member of the MLK Neighborhood Association where she served as secretary; she is also a member of the Centralites Organization where she has served as historian; and WHEREAS, she has been a vocal member of the board of directors of the Community Support Programs, Inc., since 2007; and loyally contributed to the program for more than twenty years; and WHEREAS, she enjoys cooking, quilting, puzzles, and bingo; her ninety-ninth birthday is a cause for thanksgiving and celebration. Esther Pouncey on the occasion of her ninety-ninth birthday and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she continue to enjoy great health and prosperity for many years to come.
