HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 99
BY REPRESENTATIVE HILFERTY
A RESOLUTION
To commend WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret Orr on being recognized by
WeatheRate, Inc., as the most accurate weather forecaster in Louisiana for ten
consecutive years.
WHEREAS, Margaret Orr grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she developed
a fascination with weather after standing in the eye of Hurricane Betsy as a child; and
WHEREAS, Margaret graduated from Louise S. McGehee High School in New
Orleans, and she completed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University; as her
interest in the study of weather continued to grow, she enrolled in the Mississippi State
Broadcast Meteorology graduate program, which she handily completed; and
WHEREAS, Margaret joined WDSU News in 1979 as a general assignment reporter
on the morning news; after reporting in the morning for three decades, she began forecasting
weather for the 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. news in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Margaret then became a co-host of the "Breakfast Edition" with Bill
Stanley, and later, she co-hosted the "World's Fair Show" with Alec Gifford; she has also
co-hosted the Children's Hospital Telethon with Norman Robinson for more than twenty
years, helping raise millions of dollars for the hospital; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Orr is a member of both the American Meteorology Society and
the National Weather Association, and she holds official Seals of Approval from both; she
has also been in receipt of top awards for breaking weather from the Associated Press and
the New Orleans Press Club; and

WHEREAS, this year, WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret Orr accepts her
tenth-consecutive WeatheRate award as the most accurate weather forecaster in Louisiana;
she is most deserving of the highest recognition for her incredible service to the citizens of
our great state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend WDSU News Chief Meteorologist Margaret
Orr on being recognized by WeatheRate, Inc., as the most accurate weather forecaster in
Louisiana for ten consecutive years and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that she
continue her incredible work and prosper in all of her endeavors.
