GOVERNMENTAL REGULATIONS. Provides for standards when constructing a
residential roof. (8/1/23)
1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4), relative the State Uniform Construction Code; to provide
3 for fortified roofs on residential property; to provide for requirements and standards;
4 and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง1730.28.2. State Uniform Construction Code; requirements and prohibitions
8 A. The State Uniform Construction Code shall:

10 (4) Require that the construction of a new roof or the replacement of a
11 roof on residential property shall meet or exceed the fortified roof standards of
12 the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.

Present law provides requirements and prohibitions for the State Uniform Construction
Code.
Proposed law retains requirements and prohibitions in present law and adds the requirement
that all new roofs and replacement roofs constructed on residential property shall meet or
exceed the standards of a fortified roof.
Effective August 1, 2023.
