SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 12
BY SENATORS PEACOCK AND MI ZELL 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Eta state chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. on hosting the
organization's seventy-fourth annual national convention and Phyllis Thomas on
serving as their national president.
 WHEREAS, the seventy-fourth Annual Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. national
convention will be hosted by the Eta state chapter with members throughout Louisiana
serving as hosts for the convention; and
WHEREAS, the convention will occur at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, from June 26th to June 29th, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has the distinction of being one of the
oldest national, professional organizations for educators in the United States that began in
December 1921, and nationalized in 1949; and 
WHEREAS, it is the mission of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. to promote good
fellowship and fraternal cooperation; to oppose all forces which do not tend toward the
improvement of public schools; to issue charters signifying membership to local chapters;
and to receive fees to provide scholarship funds for deserving education majors; and
WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has the distinction of being one of the
oldest organizations for educators in the United States; and 
WHEREAS, Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. has their national headquarters in
Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, it is a special honor that Phyllis Thomas of Franklinton, Louisiana, will
serve as the national president for this year's convention; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the convention is "Radiate Kappa Spirit: Love, Courage,
Faith, Honor, and Loyalty."

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc. for promoting the advancement of education by
providing a network for the exchange of education and teaching practices by educators and
Phyllis Thomas on serving as the organization's president. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Inc.
