SLS 23RS-187 ORIGINAL 2023 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 37 BY SENATOR MCMATH STUDENTS. Requests BESE and the Board of Regents to publish certain information annually relative to college and career readiness outcomes. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board 3 of Regents to collaborate to publish an annual report on their respective websites that 4 details public school students' preparation for public postsecondary education. 5 WHEREAS, research has shown that the majority of future jobs will require a 6 postsecondary education credential; and 7 WHEREAS, the high-school-to-postsecondary education pipeline needs to be robust 8 to ensure that students are properly prepared to enter either the workforce or the 9 postsecondary education arena upon completion of high school; and 10 WHEREAS, in recent years much emphasis and funding have focused on ensuring 11 students have the skills and the knowledge to pursue their career and educational dreams 12 after graduating from high school; and 13 WHEREAS, the appropriate data may help identify any specific needs in the current 14 education-to-career pipeline; and 15 WHEREAS, data collected and analyzed pursuant to R.S. 17:3914(N), including 16 trend data, may help identify ways to maximize funding and assist more students in earning 17 college course credits, career training, and in-demand career credentials while the students 18 are still enrolled in high school. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 37 SLS 23RS-187 ORIGINAL 1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 2 urge and request the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Board of 3 Regents to collaborate to publish on their respective websites an annual report detailing the 4 degree of public school students' preparation for public postsecondary education. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana requests that the 6 report include the number and percentage of public high school graduates who enroll in a 7 public postsecondary education institution within one year of graduation and who are 8 required to take a remedial or corequisite course in English or math and the number and 9 percentage of current twelfth-grade students who are not enrolled full-time at a public 10 secondary school, and further requests that the data be provided in the aggregate and by each 11 public school. 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana requests that the 13 report include the number and percentage of public high school students who are dual 14 enrolled and who take career training courses and courses for industry-based certifications, 15 and that the report identify the source of the funds used for the courses and training and the 16 amount from each source, including the Minimum Foundation Program, federal Title I, Carl 17 D. Perkins, and TOPS Tech Early Start. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 president of the Board of Regents, the commissioner of higher education, the president of 20 the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the state superintendent of 21 education.
