Recognizes, commends, and congratulates Harry Hurst Middle School principal David Schexnaydre as the 2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To recognize, commend, and congratulate Harry Hurst Middle School principal David 3 Schexnaydre as the 2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year. 4 WHEREAS, David Schexnaydre is a 2001 graduate of Destrehan High School in St. 5 Charles Parish, Louisiana, where he was a varsity letterman in football, basketball, and track; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre is an award-winning teacher, administrator, and 8 educational researcher, born and raised in Louisiana who obtained his Bachelor of Science 9 degree from Louisiana State University in 2005 and earned a Master's of Education in 10 educational leadership in 2010 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in educational 11 administration in 2016, both from the University of New Orleans; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre began his teaching career in 2005 at R.K. Smith 13 Middle School where he taught reading, writing, and social studies, while also coaching 14 football, basketball, baseball, and track; and 15 WHEREAS, he was named the R.K. Smith Middle School Teacher of the Year in 16 2009 and the Louisiana Middle School Association Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 17 2011; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed as assistant principal of J.B. Martin Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 42 SLS 23RS-1257 ORIGINAL 1 Middle School in 2012 where he served for four years; and 2 WHEREAS, in 2016 Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed assistant principal at Destrehan 3 High School where he served for two years; and 4 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed principal at Harry Hurst Middle School 5 in 2018 where he has worked tirelessly to build collaborative relationships with all 6 stakeholders and drive positive change with curriculum, instruction, growth mindset, and 7 mindfulness; and 8 WHEREAS, his vision and leadership have transformed the school according to 9 metrics in student achievement, student wellness, employee engagement, and community 10 involvement; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was named the St. Charles Parish Public School 12 Principal of the Year in 2021-2022; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre is in his eighteenth year serving in education, all of 14 which have been in St. Charles Parish public schools; and 15 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Education annually recognizes and 16 celebrates some of the state's most exceptional educators through the Teacher and Principal 17 of the Year programs in partnerships with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association 18 of Principals; and 19 WHEREAS, school systems from across the state submit nominations to the 20 state-level for Teacher and Principal of the Year to acknowledge teachers and leaders who 21 are making exceptional gains with students; and 22 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Education named David Schexnaydre 23 2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year; and 24 WHEREAS, outside of his accomplishments as principal, his doctoral dissertation 25 won the Louisiana Educational Research Association's 2016 Outstanding Graduate Paper, 26 and he was selected by the American Educational Research Association to present his 27 research at its annual conference; and 28 WHEREAS, in 2017, he was chosen by America Achieves and the Louisiana 29 Department of Education for the Louisiana Educator Voice Fellowship, and in 2019, 30 Southeastern Louisiana University hired him as an adjunct professor in their Master of Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 42 SLS 23RS-1257 ORIGINAL 1 Education Program, teaching the School-Community Relations course to aspiring leaders; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, David Schexnaydre is a lifelong learner, advocate and champion for 4 Louisiana's educators and students, and an inspiration for everyone who is committed to 5 children and Louisiana public schools. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 7 congratulate David Schexnaydre and does commend him for a distinguished career in 8 education and his incredible dedication to the St. Charles Parish Public School System and 9 the state of Louisiana educational system. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature does recognize and record for 11 posterity David Schexnaydre's achievements and offers congratulations on being named the 12 2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 14 Principal David Schexnaydre at the Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrehan, Louisiana.
