SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 42
BY SENATOR SMITH 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To recognize, commend, and congratulate Harry Hurst Middle School principal David
Schexnaydre as the 2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year.
WHEREAS, David Schexnaydre is a 2001 graduate of Destrehan High School in St.
Charles Parish, Louisiana, where he was a varsity letterman in football, basketball, and track;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre is an award-winning teacher, administrator, and
educational researcher, born and raised in Louisiana who obtained his Bachelor of Science
degree from Louisiana State University in 2005 and earned a Master's of Education in
educational leadership in 2010 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in educational
administration in 2016, both from the University of New Orleans; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre began his teaching career in 2005 at R.K. Smith
Middle School where he taught reading, writing, and social studies, while also coaching
football, basketball, baseball, and track; and 
WHEREAS, he was named the R.K. Smith Middle School Teacher of the Year in
2009 and the Louisiana Middle School Association Outstanding Teacher of the Year in
2011; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed as assistant principal of J.B. Martin
Middle School in 2012 where he served for four years; and
WHEREAS, in 2016 Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed assistant principal at Destrehan
High School where he served for two years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was appointed principal at Harry Hurst Middle School
in 2018 where he has worked tirelessly to build collaborative relationships with all
stakeholders and drive positive change with curriculum, instruction, growth mindset, and
mindfulness; and
WHEREAS, his vision and leadership have transformed the school according to
metrics in student achievement, student wellness, employee engagement, and community

involvement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre was named the St. Charles Parish Public School
Principal of the Year in 2021-2022; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Schexnaydre is in his eighteenth year serving in education, all of
which have been in St. Charles Parish public schools; and 
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Education annually recognizes and
celebrates some of the state's most exceptional educators through the Teacher and Principal
of the Year programs in partnerships with Dream Teachers and the Louisiana Association
of Principals; and
WHEREAS, school systems from across the state submit nominations to the
state-level for Teacher and Principal of the Year to acknowledge teachers and leaders who
are making exceptional gains with students; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Education named David Schexnaydre
2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year; and
WHEREAS, outside of his accomplishments as principal, his doctoral dissertation
won the Louisiana Educational Research Association's 2016 Outstanding Graduate Paper,
and he was selected by the American Educational Research Association to present his
research at its annual conference; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, he was chosen by America Achieves and the Louisiana
Department of Education for the Louisiana Educator Voice Fellowship, and in 2019,
Southeastern Louisiana University hired him as an adjunct professor in their Master of
Education Program, teaching the School-Community Relations course to aspiring leaders;
and
WHEREAS, David Schexnaydre is a lifelong learner, advocate and champion for
Louisiana's educators and students, and an inspiration for everyone who is committed to
children and Louisiana public schools.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
congratulate David Schexnaydre and does commend him for a distinguished career in
education and his incredible dedication to the St. Charles Parish Public School System and
the state of Louisiana educational system.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature does recognize and record for
posterity David Schexnaydre's achievements and offers congratulations on being named the
2023 Louisiana Principal of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Principal David Schexnaydre at the Harry Hurst Middle School in Destrehan, Louisiana.
