2023 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 44 BY SENATORS CORTEZ, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK, DUPLESSIS, FESI, FIELDS, FOIL, HARRIS, HENRY, HENSGENS, JACKSON, KLEINPETER, LAMBERT, LUNEAU, MCMATH, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL, MORRIS, PEACOCK, POPE, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, TALBOT, TARVER, WHITE AND WOMACK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate Senator Gerald Boudreaux for being selected as the recipient of the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America State Alliance Champion of the Year Award. WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is a national nonprofit organization of local chapters which provide voluntary out-of-school timed programming seeking to enable all young people, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and WHEREAS, in a typical year, local chapters of Boys & Girls Clubs collectively provide a safe haven for 3.6 million youth across the United States, directly facilitating the opportunity for them to discover their great futures; and WHEREAS, each year, the BGCA names a recipient of the State Alliance Champion Award to honor a leader who has exhibited an unwavering commitment and passion toward advocating for issues that will positively impact Boys & Girls Clubs and the youth served by them; and WHEREAS, at the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference held in Orlando, Florida, Senator Gerald Boudreaux was named recipient of the State Alliance Champion of the Year Award; and WHEREAS, Senator Boudreaux is an alumni of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana, selected as Youth of the Year in 1971; he spent over four decades working for the Lafayette Parish Parks & Recreation Department, thirty-five of those years as the director of the department; and he is a lifelong champion of youth development programs, having directly witnessed the impact that the type of programming can have on a young person's life; and WHEREAS, armed with his personal experiences and documented program outcomes, Senator Boudreaux lead the charge for private and public investment in Boys & Girls Clubs in Louisiana to fund additional sites to connect more youth to out-of-school timed programming so more young people can have a safe haven to discover and achieve their potential; and WHEREAS, for his tireless work and advocacy for youth development programming, the direct impact he has had on the lives of young people and their families, and for the pride he brings to Louisiana in his selection for this prestigious national award, Senator Boudreaux is considered a hero by many Louisianians. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Senator Gerald Boudreaux for his selection as the recipient of the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America State Alliance Champion of the Year Award and to acknowledge his many activities and contributions to the youth of our state.
