SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 112
BY SENATORS CORTEZ, ABRAHAM, ALLAIN, BARROW, BERNARD,
BOUDREAUX, BOUIE, CARTER, CATHEY, CLOUD, CONNICK,
DUPLESSIS, FESI, FIELDS, FOIL, HARRIS, HENRY, HENSGENS,
HEWITT, JACKSON, KLEINPETER, LAMBERT, LUNEAU,
MCMATH, MILLIGAN, FRED MILLS, ROBERT MILLS, MIZELL,
MORRIS, PEACOCK, PRICE, REESE, SMITH, STINE, TALBOT,
TARVER, WHITE AND WOMACK 
A RESOLUTION
To commend J. Rogers Pope for his many years of distinguished and dedicated public
service to the citizens of Livingston Parish and the people of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, with the love and support of his wife Pat and children Kevin and
Allison, J. Rogers Pope has selflessly served the citizens of Livingston Parish for 54 years;
and
WHEREAS, J. Rogers Pope, a graduate of Denham Springs High School, with a
bachelor and masters degree in education from Southeastern Louisiana University, has
engaged and encouraged the youth of Livingston Parish to be productive and responsible
citizens during a career spanning 38 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and
principal, including 14 years as Superintendent of the Livingston Parish Public School
System; and
WHEREAS, while parish superintendent Pope was instrumental in transforming the
Livingston Parish Public School System into one of the most productive and highest
achieving school systems in the state, earning many distinguished awards, including being
named 1998 Distinguished Educator, 2000 State Superintendent of the Year, and elected
2001 President of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents; and
WHEREAS, after his retirement as superintendent in 2001, Rogers ran for public
office and was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2008, serving the
citizens of District 71 as a member on the House committees on education, health and
welfare, transportation, appropriations, and retirement, and then continued until his 2020
election to Louisiana Senate District 13 where he serves on the environmental quality, health
and welfare, revenue and fiscal, and transportation committees; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career in elected office, Rogers' legislative actions and
decisions have been consistently grounded in his professional experiences and activities
involving education as well as his membership in various organizations, including the
Livingston Economic Development Council, the Istrouma Area Boy Scouts, the American
Heart Association, the American Cancer Association, the Louisiana Family Forum, the
Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation, Childcare Association of Louisiana, the Louisiana
State Troopers Association, the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, and the Louisiana School
Board Association; and
WHEREAS, as executive director of the Louisiana Association of School Executives,
Rogers helped draft and implement important legislation impacting the quality of K-12
education in our state; and
WHEREAS, with his background, experience, and knowledge of state government
and the legislative process, Rogers worked closely with legislators and officials in the
governor's office to articulate and respond to the needs of the citizens of District 13; and
WHEREAS, always the epitome of statesmanship, J. Rogers Pope's demeanor and
professionalism will be sorely missed by all who came to know him, particularly his
colleagues, staff, and constituents in District 13. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby commends J. Rogers Pope for his many years of distinguished and dedicated public
service to the citizens of Livingston Parish and the people of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Honorable J. Rogers Pope, the distinguished legislator representing Louisiana Senatorial
District 13.
